That ELO drum sound. How can I emulate it??

Post by Mr.Mxyzptlk »

As a massive fan of ELO for many years, that distinctive drum sound they create with the snares and hats has always been one of the things that sucks me in every time.

I know they didn't have digital back in the day so they must have been using some clever engineering tricks to achieve that awesome effect. Does anybody know what plugins or effects would help me to get a similar result today?

I've always been enamored with Jeff Lynne's drum sound. It even made it onto a Beatles song, for crying out loud.

You referring to that Free as a Bird song? Yeah, I remember hearing that tune and buying it purely on the the strength of that Lynne drum sound. It's devastating on a quality stereo setup.

Thanks for that Mixel. All very complicated stuff! Jeff Lynne is an absolute musical genius. His songs are just so damn good!
