Ezmix 3 opinions?

Post by ppayne »

Hi guys,

Toontrack Ezmix 3 is out. After version 2 could do practically nothing, I'm amazed at how good the new version has become  Similarity search cloud, enough controllable effect parameters, mastering AI that immediately generates the correct LUFS, combining several effect chains in one instance, numerous guitar, bass amp presets, single effects that can be added etc. it's a complete new program I think.

For those who don't like spending hours and days working on the right effects or mastering, this seems to be a new quality when it comes to effect chain presets. I think this worked extremely well for home recording skills and ui looks very nice and intuitive. I think this is an all-in-one solution for newbies and maybe more.

What is your opinion on this?

Hi,

Have you used iZotope Ozone 9 or 10 or Nectar or Neutron? Do you know how they compare to Ezmix 3? The iZotope Mastering Essentials that comes with Mixcraft has a couple of decent starting points for mastering even though it is quite old. It can get you quickly in a ballpark of where you might want to go. Does Ezmix 3 do more? From what I've read and the sound bites I've listened to, I'm not really seeing anything new coming to the table.

But I haven't actually used Ezmix 3 so I don't know if it actually is bringing something new.

That's partly true. But the trick is always to complete good approaches.

Ozone is only for mastering and Nectar is only for vocal. I have never used Nectar. Toontrack provides Mix with ready-made presets for everything and now also covers the Ozone range. Until now, the options for intervention have been practically zero. They have now changed that with version 3.

Toontrack has been very successful so far with the customizable mixes in EZ Drummer. I think it's a great achievement from Toontrack with out-of-the-box effect presets that are sufficiently customizable for stuff including guitars, drums, vocals and so on.

I think they've made a big thing for all users who want it easy with enough customization options on all tracks. The innovation at Toontrack is always simplification with a good UI/UX. That could well have been successful.

I'm still waiting for a trial version of EZmix 3...

Good news! The EZMix 3 trial is available. I've had it for a few days and I'm pretty impressed. I initially got it for the Bob Rock expansion pack, but I find myself using the amp presets for my guitar more than I use Amplitube (and I have the Boogies/Solodad packs).

A plugin like this never crossed my mind in the past because it was probably gonna be crap, right? Very wrong. This plugin will probably find a place on every track along with the SSL 4K channel strips.

And a shout out to EZDrummer expansion pack "Hard Rock" produced by Bob Rock as well. If this is the "sound" you are going for, IKMultimedia did a pretty good job.

I have used Izotope Ozone before, but only on mastering. EZMix 3 has mastering presets but I'm pretty happy with the SSL/Slate mastering plugins.

Cool, I missed that the trial is already there. I'll test that this weekend too.

The way you describe it is how I imagined it. You can quickly have access to many good effect chains that sound good for different purposes.

What will be crucial for me is whether I can influence the effect chain sufficiently with the parameters provided. Good effect templates that you can still influence sufficiently to achieve your goal quickly and easily. Basically like ezdrummer 3.

I'm also interested in whether the old ezmix 2 effect chains had more adjustable parameters in ezmix 3.
