Changing an effect parameter

Post by bsheen74 »

Is there a way to change the parameter of an effect that is on every track. For instance I have a console vst. on every track, but need to turn on the "fat" switch for all of them. I've tried using the shift or cntrl, or alt function to select all of the tracks and changing the parameter, but it only changes the selected intance of the vst. All others remain in the off position.

Hi,

If you have the same effect on every track or groups of tracks and you want to affect the effect the same way at once, you could use a send track, you could group the tracks under a submix track and put the effect on the parent only, or you could use an output bus track with the effect on the bus track

And in the case of a submix, you couls also use automation to control parameters on effects as well. Im not at a computer so i cant recall if automation can be applied to send and bus tracks

Yes, effect parameter automation can be used on both Send and Output tracks.

I'm not talking during playback. I'm looking to turn stuff on/off with multiple tracks at a time.

Still applies. Put the effect on a send track, a Submix track or an output bus track. All tracks that use the send, submix or bus will go through that effect on those parents. you change the effect parameters on the parent, all tracks that play through it are affected. Automation is just an additional option.

Not sure of the efficiency of placing the same effect on each track individually unless each instance is controlled and setup differently. But another possible option might be to add a MIDI controller to each effect on each track and assign the same CC to the same parameter and use MIDI hardware to control that CC/parameter.

Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly.
If I want to add lets say a console plugin to every track. Once the plugin is put on every track I need or decide to put all instances in the "FAT" mode. currently I have to goto every instance and change it to that. Versus being able to select all of the tracks at one time and change it to "FAT" and all of the selected tracks follow. Or for that matter as many or few tracks that have been selected.

I just selected 10 tracks and while holding down the "shift" key, I turned the parametric eq on/off and all of the selected tracks followed suit. This same functionality is what I am asking about within the effect/plugin part of the track. Holding the shift key only changes the paramter of the track I'm hovering over, not all of the tracks that are selected.
