Just finished another song. I'm trying to write songs that are more personal to me. This one contemplates having a near death experience and fighting to live for my family. The old man with the blue eyes is my grandfather who I always thought would be the one that welcomes me to the afterlife if there is one. I hope you enjoy!

Re: They Have My Love
Impressive, to say the least. Very thought through arrengment and stellar playing. Was it a steel guitar? Very tastefully played. Vocals, top notch. Very professional sounding over all. Influences? A bit ELO perhaps? George Harrison?
The only thing I heard that I think could be a little improved upon (in my taste) were the drums. I haven´t listened with headphones, so perhaps I´m wrong, but to me the drums sounded a bit dry compared to the lushful arrengement and very broad soundscape you created. Perhaps the drums were a bit busy at some places, but I imangine that it was a diffucult task to arrange drums for this track.
Anyways, really well done.

Re: They Have My Love
Hi M@rkus,
Thanks for listening! There is no real steel guitar. There is a real acoustic guitar there that you can hear more clearly in some of the quieter moments but otherwise just providing some percussive rhythm. The only real instruments are the acoustic and my voice. Everything else is played on my keyboard using midi. A get the ELO comparison quite a lot with the songs I've completed thus far. I like them but I wouldn't say they are a major influence. I love George Harrison and of course the Beatles as well, which I would say are an influence. My main influences are probably Pink Floyd, Genesis, Radiohead, MGMT, Gorillaz, Beck.
As for the drums...I do appreciate the feedback. The drums for me are the biggest disconnect in the process and the instrument that is most mysterious to me from a mixing standpoint. I'm using EZ drummer which is fantastic but in some ways, it really isn't so easy. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out which "grooves" will sound best, and then trying to get their volume and compression right. etc. I might try a real drummer to play at some point since I have a good friend that is a very good drummer. When I go back into the file in the near future when I finally try to assemble an album, I will definitely consider your comments and see how adding some more reverb sounds...I think that's basically what you were suggesting right?
Anyway, thanks again. it's really great to get feedback. When you work so many hours on a track, it can mess with your head and it's easy to become biased. Getting feedback from others - especially from those with an interest in music production is very valuable to me.

Hi unclemeat,
Thanks for the informative reply. Yes, a real drummer would make all the difference. I used to use Addictive Drummer, but I was never happy with the sound nor the lack of intuitive playing. When I discovered my loops they sounded so much better, and I never used Addictive drummer again.
The only problem with a real drummer as I see it, is how well you will be able to record the drums, and get a sound that fits your song.
Best regards/
