The "OTHER" ~Optimize your PC for Mixcraft!~

Post by Atlantian »

It seems to me that a computer to which you commit all these adjustments had better not be your main and internet computer,
because you may (a) do something to it which you will regret and not be able to undo; and (b) many of us would have to spend an hour or so mucking about each time we switch from DAW to regular internet stuff. For some people it might be a piece of cake, but others would struggle. :?

I have only just read through your previous posts other than the one I have recently replied to and agree with most of what CactusMusicBC told you on your other post. There is no need to change anything other than selecting the driver type within the program to get to use either your audio interface of the computer's own audio interface. If you mean that you can't use the internet while the program is running then that could be a possibility depending on whether the computer or the program has set to use an exclusivity mode or not to try to reduce latency if that has become a problem.

It's unfortunate that programmers have to cope with what is in effect a pigs ear of the sound implementation Microsoft decided to give it's operating system from its earliest days but is now firmly a part of its operating system.
At the time it was probably more for the benefit of gamers than creatives who I think Microsoft at that point had not taken into consideration as most music was being produced on the Atari platform with Steinberg, or if earlier and related to studio work with dedicated hardware, other operating systems dedicated to being used between mixing desks and Digital tape recorders in professional studios.

Steinberg came up with the ASIO driver to try to help out with the problems associated with using Direct X for use within its own daw and had the foresight to make it public domain thus allowing other developers to produce effects and compatible soft synths etc, but that just added a layer of complexity for the user to get to grips with, even if the result was often better once tweaked to the performance of the machine it was on.

Apple saw this form deficiency from the getgo and decided to become the creatives choice for audio and video editing but due to its aggressive policy of not happily supporting third party apps, the choices of how many different programs and the inheritive cost of such third party offerings and entering the Apple ecosystem for both the consumer and the developer, the pickings of choice in such programs has become very limited.

As with anything there is an amount of learning to do and some people find that easier than others.
Personally I have more difficulty getting my phone to work as I want it to than using Windows but I have been a Windows user much longer than I have had a smart phone.
It's what you get used to and the problem of using legacy systems that have to have a degree of backwards compatibility.

Unfortunately the state of affairs is what it is and not perfect.
