Yup. Everything works until it doesn't. And when you aren't doing something different it can make you crazy trying to figure out what's going on.

I think in the quest to make things easier, users are generally moved so far away from the workings of their devices, that troubleshooting is much harder than it was in the past. People just dont know as much as they did or rather, dont have to know as much as they did.

Right. Just for fun, here my worst case scenario,

My mother's phone :

She : son I need a new phone to call you and your sister. My phone cable is broken and the key number 5 always hangs sometimes.

Me: then you need a new phone I think. It's better to use WhatsApp, then you can reach us even we have no time to talk.

She: oh boy, I only want to call you and your sister sometimes when you have time. Where can I buy these WhatsApp?

Me: hmm.. You can't. You need a Smartphone first. But first you have to decide what else you want to do with it. There are devices between 300 and 1.000 euros.

She: I only want to call you. OK, where can I get this Smartphone.

Me: hang on, are you interested to take photos?

She: photos? With my phone? No. I only want to call you

Me: OK. But it's better to get a Smartphone for WhatsApp. First you need a provider

She : a provider? I already have a connection on my wall. Can I plug in this Smartphone there

Me: haha, no. You need a contract with a provider. It's cheap. You can get a flat rate for only 9 euros a month.

She: 9 euros to call you once a month? OK, where can I talk that provider?

Me: ah, hang on. 400 euros for the device plus 9 euros per month. But you get more for this price.

She: but I can call you with that, right? I can type in your phone number, right?

Me: Yes you can. You only need the phone app.

She: phone app? Comes this from the provider?

Me: no, it is pre-installed on the device. You can use different apps there. But let's talk about WhatsApp, this is more easy to contact me. This is also an app.

She: more easy sounds good

Me: you only needs to set up your Smartphone first with a Google account.

She: a Google account? Do I really need that to contact you son?

Me: yes. It's totally easy. You (or maybe better I) can install it. After that you have a WhatsApp account and can contact me.

She : you mean Google account?

Me : no, an account for WhatsApp. This is a chat app and needs a separate account.

She: there I can type in your phone number to call you?

Me : hmm.. ok mom, I try to find an old phone device for your connector on the wall. I think it will cost 30 euros and you can install it yourself.

She: 30 euros per month?

Me: no, only once mom

She: son, what did you told me before about the expensive crap for one hour?

Me : I don't know. It seems I'm a bit confused today

She: no problem. Next time I better ask your wife if something gets broken

Me: that's normal today mom.

She : no wonder that everybody has burnout today. I think this why Germany want to legalize drugs. No wonder that you don't have time to talk.

Me: I search for the phone and get back to you soon mom.

Thinking for myself: Luckily I didn't explain to her that she had to charge her Smartphone every day and that she always had to update the operating system and security. And that she has to replace the Smartphone after 4 years at the latest, learn new gestures and a daily pin. If I had mentioned that, she would have thought I was completely stupid in my brain
