When I have the MIDI set up to play through Kontakt Player 8 within Mixcraft, it plays fine. However, if I mix down and do "use selection only", making the start the first note of music, the first note does not play. The only workaround I've found is to have an empty measure before the music starts, then have the start somewhere in that empty measure, so that there is a second of silence and then the first note actually plays.
For the current track I'm working on, having a brief silence at the start isn't an issue. However, I plan on using Kontakt Player to trigger some 8bit sounds for game music, and the game music will need to be able to perfectly loop without any silences. So I need to know how to fix this for when I get there.
EDIT: Also, there is a part that comes in about 20 seconds into the track. It wouldn't play the first note of this either, until I put a blank measure before it. It's like the MIDI info isn't being loaded for mixdown, until there is an entry to tell it to play the music? If that makes sense... so even though the entry is blank, having that before the first note tells it to load the instrument, then it can actually play whatever comes next. But having the first entry be a note, nothing gets played until the second note. I could be wrong here, just trying to figure out what's going on... I don't have this issue playing MIDI through other plugins in Mixcraft (not even another Native Instruments plugin like Massive).

Re: Kontakt Player 8 not playing first MIDI note when mixed down
Hi,
Make sure that the selection isn't cutting off the start of the note. Each MIDI note has a "note on" at the start and a "note off" at the end. If the virtual instrument doesn't get the "note on," it won't play the note. Does it play if you don't select "Use Selection" before mixing down?

Re: Kontakt Player 8 not playing first MIDI note when mixed down
Thanks for the quick response!
If I have the start of the music at the start of the project, and do *not* use selection, it still won't play the first note. I have to move the music in a bit so there is some blank space, then that way mixing down without a selection, the first note will play.
EDIT: So, I tested another MIDI project with the Kontakt sound pack I plan on using for game music in the near future. It does *not* have this issue - I can mix down a project that begins right at the start of the project, and it all plays fine. If it matters, the Kontakt sound pack I'm using that's problematic is the "Pro Tools Factory Essentials" sound pack. I got it for free with my Focusrite. I figured since it is just a sound pack that uses Kontakt Player, there would be no issues using it in Mixcraft, but maybe something about it makes it only 100% functional with ProTools? Seems odd that it will play fine in Mixcraft though, just mixdown wrong.

Re: Kontakt Player 8 not playing first MIDI note when mixed down
Hi,
Try this:
Mix down to a wav file that has the same sample rate as the one you're using in Sound Device preferences. For example, if you're using a sample rate of 48000 Hz in Mixcraft's sound device preferences, mix down to a wav file with a sample rate of 48000 Hz. To change the sample rate of your mixed down files, click Edit Details / Specify Settings when you go to mix down.

Re: Kontakt Player 8 not playing first MIDI note when mixed down
I had been mixing down to the same sample rate. I have found a workaround, though - right click on the offending MIDI track and "Mix to New Audio Track". Now I can have the part start with the start of the project, "Use Selection" mixdown, and it plays correctly.
