Lay Lady Lay, the Dylan Tune

Post by EL34 »

This tune has been running around my brain for 30 years, or however long it has been out.

The Nashville Skyline album is still one of my top favorite albums to this day.

I did an instrumental version of Lay Lady Lay so I could get it out of my brain for now.

Let me know if the levels are ok or if something is too loud or too soft.
This is mix #1
Lay Lady Lay - mix 1

The tone chain is
My 80's Strat
into my Hoffman AB763 2x10 combo
into the Palmer Speaker simulator
into the computer sound card.
Recorded with Mixcraft
Beatcraft for the drums

I think you have a great mix here EL.
I love what you did with beatcraft, and your guitar tones are always so genuine (for lack of a better word).

I can clearly hear every instrument, nice job.

Thanks Eric,

I may drop the level on the cowbell/wood blocks sections level just a bit.

Got to live with it a while and see.

You know how you you get tired ears when recording a tune?

Need a break and then I'll get back on it with fresh ears.

Kinda sounds like a Spagheti western?

Yes, I sure do know how that is! I had it happen last night after 5 hours of recording. I had to go rode my quad for 30 minutes to clear my mind.

You know, even though that style of music isn't my thing (I can listen to it and enjoy it, but wouldn't be inspired to record it.) I find myself admiring your ability to create really authentic guitar tones and flawless sounding mixes.

Your playing is really good as well, very controlled. It sounds like you either spend a tremendous amount of time perfecting your style, or you're a savant, one of the two.

Very nice, keep em coming!

Thanks RB,
I've been playing off and on for a very long time.
(More off than on) :?

That tune is just one of several different styles of stuff I play, not the norm for sure.

I post them here mainly to show people what Beatcraft and Mixcraft can do. (They can actually do a lot more than I do with them)

Every tune I do lately, I am ramping up the knowledge base on the recording process.
Recordingis is a ton-o-fun and a great hobby.
