How do you even connect MIDI Controllers to your Computer ?

Post by nateasy »

I've researched quite a bit and i'm seeing MIDI interfaces & MIDI cables .

But the MIDI cables don't have a USB end , so where does it even plug in ?

Can someone please explain this step by step for me ?

I needa know what to buy .

Thank you , you guys have been really helpful .

Actual midi controllers use midi cables, not usb. You can buy sound cards like the m-audio delta1010lt which has midi cable connections for controllers. Or you can get an audio interface (usb) which has midi connections, giving your midi controller a connection to your pc via usb.

MIDI to Firewire cables??

Post by Imstevieb »

Kind of on the same subject. Has anyone seen MIDI to Firewire cables and if so, will replacing my MIDI to USB cable with Firewire improve the signal/recording quality between my controller and Mixcraft 5??

Can't say i've seen such a thing but I am not a regular user of midi. There are audio interfaces which connect via firewire and have midi connections.
And yes, firewire has a much wider bandwidth than usb, so if you at any point start to reach the usb limit, firewire would clear it up for you.
