Vocsteady IS a compressor, a software compressor. If you want to also use a hardware compressor, then you'll get twice the result. Personally for vocals and bass I use both hardware and software compression.

By hardware you mean something about my audio interface? About my mic? I'm kinda lost at this. Any help would be appreciated!

No, like a hardware compression unit.
I use my guitar preamp pedal, it's got great compression.
You can even use something as simple as this compression pedal
