I purchased the Lacie 500 GB "Extreme" external hard drive. The warranty was l year. It went bad about 6 weeks after the warranty expired.
"Lacie" would not consider working with me to get the drive repaired, nor would they suggest a place where I could send it to have it repaired. They stated: It is their experience it would cost more to ship the unit back, and have it re-shipped to me; that it's probably better to purchase a new disk drive. I paid $475 for the Hard Drive.
The unit contained two "Maxtor" 250 GB drives. I contacted Maxtor, and they said the warranty expiration date, for these drives, expired in 2008. Maxtor replaced the drive (under warranty) that we thought was defective.
When we re-assembled the "Lacie" hard drive, it still would not work.
