Some help about copyright.

Post by Rod VM »

hello everyone: Just one question, I would like to upload a cover I made with Mixcraft in Soundcloud, b ut I was reading about the copyright and I'm not sure if I can do it or not.
Of course with all the notes that's it's a cover for that song and the original's author's names.
It's a song from Simon & Garfunkel (Like a bridge over trobled water).
Any help it's welcomed...

I read that as "No" too. Youtube are pretty easy going about covers so why not put it there? The owners of copyright, or their agents, can only ask you to remove it. As long as you haven't received, or attempted to receive, any payment for the performance (in which case it could get messy and expensive) then the process should be straightforward.

hello Ian, thank you very much!!! I agree with you. I have no intention to make any kind of money for that.
Besides, of course, i will mention the original credits and everything.
As soon as I dit it I will post here the link, waiting for your comments.....

Be careful when asking me for comments, I tend to be more of a critic than a flatterer. I can't help it, it's just part of my bombastic nature.

Just checked the song I did for the March challenge on soundcloud.

There are 250 covers for that song alone.

Do you all copyright your songs?

I have a bunch of songs I recorded and plan to put on Sound Cloud some day. Should I copyright them before I do?

You wanted my comments. The weak link is the vocals. You should practice scales, etc It may even be that its in a key which is unsuitable for you. Maybe try accompanied guitar or piano in different keys and see if that helps. Maybe even singing closer and more gently into the mic. If all that fails then maybe invest in melodyne.

Your songs are copyrighted the instant you create them. Registering them means just that: you are registering them. Unless you think you are going to be in a court room one day with someone that claimed your song as their own - which is unlikely - then it's really unnecessary. Especially considering you have all of the original project files and they have nothing.
