How is this Vocal trick done?

Post by Bucktail »

Anyone know how the vocal sound is done on this song. I'd like to learn how to do that.

Shows up real well around the the 0:32 mark when he sez the lyric. "just because we get around"

Sound like a pretty simple pitch shift with perhaps some saturation on it.

OK at least now I have an idea what is being done. I still have no idea where to start.

Thanks for the response!

Hi,

Is it some kind of guitar/vocal processor or vocoder? You might also try messing around with the LFO in the Classic Auto-Filter effect.

It's a combination of pitch, distortion, and frequency modulation through some sort of autotune device. Not sure if there is a specific VST effect for this but you can try several freebies and see if they can get you close. They will require some experimenting with to see if it can achieve the effect. Heres one that can do robotic and fixed pitch

It is very hard to even guess. Not only do we not know the VST/VST's used, the settings, etc, but being a chain of unknown VST's and in an unknown order........ Very hard to guess.

But there is clearly heavy compression, probably more than 2 incidences in some order. A pitch correction and some distortion. Could be an overdriven pre-amp saturation or another specific distortion plug. Multiple EQ incidences, etc. It would be very very hard to duplicate, even with a lot of experience.

Even if you could, I'd suggest experimenting and finding your own sound.
Stay in tune, Mark

I would suggest trying to get ahold of the mixer/producer if you really want to know. As stated it could be a multitude of different avenue's to get to that place. That's the beauty, there's no one specific right way to do this stuff.
