My paranoia is getting to me again.....

Post by marc32123 »

I know this is a Mixcraft forum, but I am just wondering if anyone can answer my question. I ended up getting another focusrite scarlett 2i2 because my dog ended up making mine fall off my desk, which is a pretty high fall. I just recieved my new one today. I have decided I am going to be extremely careful with this one to the point of I guess you could say being border OCD lol. But I am already worried about something that happen to this one before I even got it in the door. I didn't end up waking up until noon today, and my 2i2 has been sitting outside my door in the cold for around 3 hours, below freezing, not sure how cold it was this morning exactly though, prolly around like 20-30 degees. Is there any possibility that it could have got damaged from this?

Not sure, but one thing I know about is heat is worse for electronics and cold is usually not that bad on electronics, all things being equal.

Wish I could help more, but I don't know more. :)

Hi,

Your first Focusrite 2i2 was probably fine, and this one is fine, too. Focus on having fun with the music, not on the hardware.

I am fairly certain at this point, we are NOT talking borderline OCD,

Marc, I'm glad to see you here, and we are here to help. And I remain optimistic you will soon follow the advise as in Greg's reply, and make some noise!

Have some fun Marc! 8)
Stay in tune, Mark

Cold is good... heat could be bad.

If extreme cold was detrimental to solid state electronics then we could expect plenty of failed satellites, and even more so with the Voyager series of space probes. We don't because it's not.

Damn it, Voyager One even managed to return from hundreds of years in deep cold space and was still working well enough to communicate with the crew of the Starship Enterprise.

Just get on with using it.

even the cheapest of commercial grade "innards"(resistors & such) are rated from around -40 to +135 fahrenheit.
