There are no good drums with Mixcraft?

Post by evrardo »

Hi, :(

I'm a lot of deceived with Mixcraft.
When I bought Beatcraft last year, I have bought the "More Drums Volume 1" and "Analogania" too, that's gave me many more drums: Bongos, Congas, Claves, and all these kinds of african and afrocuban instruments.

Then I have bought Mixcraft Home Studio, and I don't have all theses drums I need.
I don't want to download sound, because I need to make beats really accurate.

Do you know what can I do?

Thanks for your help.

You can use the Studio Drums which has a few crafty features. Look at the video.

Having that said, it springs to mind what Jerry Byrd, steel guitarist par excellence, once said: "If you can play, it does not matter what instrument you have. If you can´t play, it does not matter, what instrument you have".

In this context: If you program or play your virtual drumkit yourself, you have to know what you do or it will sound mediocre.

For myself (who joins that league...) I rather resort to one of the third party plug-ins that are recorded by pro drummers who know their business.
I personally believe, a DAW is a DAW and its purpose it not to deliver perfect drums.
In this respect, Mixcraft does well anyway.

But if you have a drummer background, use the Studio Drum Kit.

Hi!

Mixcraft Home Studio is basically the 'Lite' version of Mixcraft and does not have all the features of Mixcraft 6 or Pro Studio.

Here's a comparison chart - maybe consider an upgrade?

You won't be dissapointed - this is fantastic software :D

All right, so say to the best guitarist in the world to play a concert with a bad guitar.
Say to the best rallyman in the world, to do a race with a spoilt car.
Say to the best tennisman in the world, to compete with a piece of wood.
And so on...

What Jerry Byrd says is true, but don't mix the playing and the working.
In this word of competition, you can't win with bad gear, you need the best.

And I hoped Mixcraft was one of the best. I feel disapointed now.

Yes, of course. But I don't want to buy a total version again. I just need a good set of drums.

I hope so.
I will see.

Sorry If I did not make myself clear. I am not making clues as to how good your skills are.
I am saying, if you are not a drummer (who knows how to arrange drum pieces) you will have a hard time doing so, even if your drumkit (virtual or let alone real) was the best.

I am not aware of the limitations of the light version, but Studio Drums are great sounding. However I do not get too great results out of it, not because the drum kit itself is flawed, but because I am no drummer and do not really know the tricks of the trade.

I have no stakes there, but maybe your comparison is not quite fair.
I only played with one competitor, which was cluttered and unusable to me.
I see other DAWs used by people who make money out of their business (I avoid the word "professional" because this says nothing about the quality of the product) and there are strong similarites. Some do have features I would like to see too, but let´s face it, look at the pricetag.
Look at a "pro" program. Does this dabble with drums? No. A DAW is a DAW. You´re getting this mixed up IMHO.

Hi Trevlyns,
something wrong: I have just been on the link you gave me, I made an upgrade: Mixcraft Home Studio to Mixcraft 6, but finally this upgrade bring me on my Beatcraft software!
And nothing new in my Mixcraft.

May be it's possible to import virtual instrument of Beatcraft, in Mixcraft?

Hi!

Sorry if I miss-understood you... Beatcraft is a separate program but I've not had any experience with it so maybe someone else can help us here?

Hi evrardo,

You can render the patterns and sequences from Beatcraft into audio files. Then, drop those audio files into Mixcraft.

Unfortunately, you cannot use Beatcraft in Mixcraft directly as a Virtual Instrument.

Beatcraft won't work directly in Mixcraft because Beatcraft files are Wav & Mixcraft VSTi are midi.
Mixcraft 6 has a lot of good drum stuff but you need to mix & match different parts of kits & re-eq some of it a bit.

for a short example of Drums in MC6-
do a drum part using the Studio kit then duplicate that track for each piece of the kit- bass drum, snare, toms, cymbals, etc. and erase all the other kit pieces for each of those tracks.

let's say the snare-erase everything but the snare in sound editor tab.
you can then change the snare drum(just an example) to say Jazz or Heavy Metal kit or even both,eq them differently,& adjust volumes for each making it sound like you have miced both the top & bottom of the drum. you can even use a different reverb on a 3rd snare track & make it sound like a room mic.

click the links in my sisnature.that's pretty much all MC6 drums.

Hi Vibrant, yes, I did it before, but I need to make beats with instruments and to be very accurate.
I have sent a message directly to the Mixcraft Team, I will see tomorrow what they says.

Sorry for my english.

Ah yes, really interesting.

You have made a lot of work.
I have downloaded your sample, to learn how you have made all this.
Thanks a lot.

Ok, now I fell much better with Mixcraft.
One more thing: when we get in Mixcraft, we don't need anymore Beatcraft, isn't it?

Have you looked in to something like EZdrums? This plugs into Mixcraft seamlessly.
They are about to release a new version next month, I expect them to drop the prices for a limited period of time.

There are plenty of other powerful packages like that.
