LATENCY PROBLEMS

Post by nathaissa »

Hey guys. I am having a latency problem with my mixcraft. I 've read alot of the the problems that other people are having but mine still puzzles me. Alot of people are stating that one track slows down more than the other but my recordings slow down all together for a couple of seconds and goes back up to it's regular beat. There's also like a cutting off sound during that time. But I've noticed that it's only on the songs where I have over 20 tracks with effects on practically all of them. I have a dimension 5150 DELL with 2.5 gigs but a low budget soundcard. I hope somebody can shine some light on this because I'm in the dark. Thanks

IMO i would say the cheap budget sound card may be the first item to look after.

Let's see what other tips the others can give you, but im having no sign of any latency (at least not that i can be aware of and i think i got a pretty accurate hearing and sense of timming).

And im using a Sound Blaster Audigy II ZS PCI sound card.

Not a too expensive item and it works just great for me.

(you can check out my tracks if you check the link in my signature below the message for example of what i do with this sound card and Mixcraft)

best of luck

latency

Post by nathaissa »

Well thanks for the info. I will check out that sound card see if it will fix things. Now can you tell me if is there any adjustments I would have to do in installing thi particular soundcard?

Yes, you'd be better to deactivate any onboard soundcard (this can be found in your BIOS menu) prior to installing a new card.

Hi,

What you're experiencing isn't what we call latency, it's the sound cutting out.

There's something you can try with your current sound card: go into the Sound Device preferences and try doubling the number of buffers and buffer size. Play around with those settings to see if you can reduce or eliminate the problem.

buffers

Post by nathaissa »

Well I tried changing the buffer size and it still does it. I'm still getting the cutting off and the and still slows down drastically. I guess if you can tell me what the settings are suppose to be in the soundcard when I open it please that way I'm in the same page you are. Thanks.

Hi,

There's no exact setting that will always work, it would vary from computer to computer, depending on the particular setup. What do you have selected for the number of buffers and buffer size? Did you try doubling the original values?

If you like, you can make a short sample of sound that illustrates the problem, then submit a support request and attach the sound.

PROBLEMS WITH RECORDING

Post by nathaissa »

Thanks. The only problem is I don't have internet connect to my computer. I only use it for recording purposes. I e-mail you guys from work. So i wouldn't know how else do it unless i download those files in a memory stick then uploaded on my computer here at work. But then I wouldn't no how to do that. Another thing I failed to mention is that this only happens on playback. When I render it and save it and downloaded to my IPOD it sounds perfect with no cutting sounds nor playing slow.
