Mixcraft 4

Post by Jim Lad »

I downloaded a trial version of Mixcraft 4 to see what I would be gaining.
Not much in it for me since I don't use midi.
However, I did carry most of my work into it just see if there was any actual difference and do the usual tinkering.
Now the trial period is about to expire and I've uninstalled Mixcraft 4 just to make sure everything is okay.
No such luck. Looks like most of my work has been converted to Mixcraft 4.
I have one day to figure out how to convert it to Mixcraft 3 and also to get rid of the weird message that keeps popping up when I try to open it.
Just about one third of an album... gone!
Ouch! :!:

Hi there,

Your Mixcraft 4 project files would be saved as .mx4, and your Mixcraft 3 project files would be saved as .mx3 files. There's no reason why Mixcraft 4 would save over an .mx3 unless you specifically instructed it to do so.

Regarding the weird error messages - what are they, and what build of Mixcraft 4 did you install?

MIxcraft 4 will open MX3 files.
"Would you like to save your changes?" says MC 4
"Why, of course." says I and Voila! They are now MX4 files.
I'll stay up tonight and master the tracks but first I'll cruise around in here, looking for some advice on the best format to save it in etc..

With regards to the message that was blocking me. I uninstalled & installed both Mixcrafts a number of times until the message stopped coming up.

Find the folder where your mx3 projects are stored, the mx3 file should still be there.

Mixcraft 4 does not erase the mx3 file, it just saved a new .mx4 file

Oh how I wish you were right. By making changes in MC4, the file is transferred over. The MC3 file no longer exists. It is gone. That is why I started this thread. Unless you want to purchase Mixcraft 4, Do not make any changes to your Mixcraft 3 projects in MC4.

On a lighter note. I managed to master the 4 tracks before the trial expired.

Sorry, this is not true - Mixcraft will never delete your Mixcraft 3 project.

Try it -- save a test project in Mixcraft 3, load it in Mixcraft 4, save it as an .mx4, and see if the .mx3 is still there.

Perhaps the original .mx3 was accidentally deleted some other way.

Wish you were right, Dan.
I did try it.
That's why I'm here.
The bonus is that it made me finish those 4 songs (stayed up until 06:00hrs. on Sunday doing that) and now I can move on to the rest of the album.

Jim, please check that you have the latest version of the beta. I just ran through the test as described and I can confirm that in no way was the .mx3 deleted as part of saving the mx4.

Please contact us at betazoid@acoustica.com so we can assist you further.

Thanks!

Dan:
The MC 4 trial period is over. I no longer have it. Don't want it right now but if I ever start using Midi, I will buy it.
What happened, happened. It's done. I've moved on.
You have experimented and came up with a different result. That's nice but it doesn't help me.
Good to know that you all take it so personally it shows that you really care about your product.
I like it too.
Regards

You had to delete the mx3 file yourself or you did not find the actual location where it is stored.

As Dan and I said, Mixcraft 4 does not delete the old mx3 files.
When you open a mx3 file in mixcraft4, it only imports the file, it does not do anything to the mx3 file.

Not sure why you are so unwilling to believe that?

I have tons of mx3 files here that I have opened in Mixcraft 4.
I go back to mixcraft 3 all the time and open the original mx3 files again and again.

If you run a windows operated computer you could try using the search function:

"Start Button--Search--All Files and folders--All local drives"

Then enter this in your search box:
*.mx3

You should be able to find your mx3 files somewhere on your computer if they are still there.
