How to change song so I can send to a friend through email???

I think I have to convert it into a different formant? Just not exactly sure which one for the best sound, and how to do it???

Hi,

The best quality is wav, which is uncompressed, but wav files can be ten time larger than the equivalent compressed file (MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis). You might not be able to email the file if it's a wav file.

Do you want to send your friend the completed song so he or she can listen to it? Or were you trying to collaborate on a song?

If you just want to send the finished song, click on the File menu, select "Mix Down To..." and then MP3.

You could also zip it which works well for e-mailing. Most windows OS's have a ZIP process.

Hi,

Zipping wav files doesn't compress them very much. A MP3 file would be smaller.

And MP3 files are already compressed, so zipping them doesn't help much either.

Another thing to consider is that email is not the best way to send large files. My email service only lets me receive or send files up to 10 mb. An average mp3 song at 320 kbps is around 8 to 12 mb. I would look into one of the services online for file sharing like DropBox or GoogleDrive. Some of them are free. That way you do not have to compress them and save the sound quality.

I use a site called Copy. It s excellent for sharing large files and you get 15gb of storage for free.

Hey Greg, I know how to mix it down to wave or mp3 in Mixcraft. I mixed it down to wav, and when it was done mixing down (only a few seconds) a little screen popped with the song, windows media player. How would I go about sending this song to someone through email or instant messaging system like gmail after this step?

Check out Google Drive. It's like a cloud drive. You get 5 gigs.

Marc, once you've mixed it down, open you email client and start a new email. Add the address of your friend and a topic then add the file (dependent on your email program) as an attachment.
Warning though, some email servers will only allows files of a limited size so .mp3 may be easier than .wav. You would need trained ears to notice the difference

When mixing down to MP3 it is best to apply a variable bit rate rather than fixed. Variable is more efficient, and allows a smaller file size compared to fixed bit rate for equivalent audio quality. You can access this setting via Edit Details > Specify Settings > Configure > Variable Bit Rate.
