Behringer Xtouch with Mixcraft 7

Post by Dragoo »

I just recieved my Behringer Xtouch control surface and thought I would let anyone interested in purchasing one know what features work with mixcraft.

First off the set up using MC took only seconds and everything that is going to work in Mixcraft 7 is immediately working.

So here is what you can and cannot use:

The Encoder knobs work and can be assigned
The scribble strip are illuminated and display but the colors do not work with Mixcraft 7
The Channel buttons work. Rec, solo, mute and select
The channel meters do not work with Mixcraft 7
The flying faders work wonderfully

In The Master section you don't get much use of the buttons provided
The encoded Assign buttons do not work
The Display does display SMPTE or beats
None of the global view section will work
Function Keys F1 through F8 do not work
None of the Modify section works
only the Latch button in the Automation section works
none of the utility section works
only the Cycle button works in the transport section as the loop toggle
Stop, Rewind, Fast forward, Play and Record do work
The Fader Bank and Channel Banks do work
The navigation banks do not work

I have included a picture of the Xtouch with all the color buttons shown
as the working features you can use with Mixcraft 7.
All the buttons that I have made grey will not work

Hope this helps anyone who is interested in using this board with Mixcraft 7

Hey Dragoo,

Thanks for posting this. I have been looking at the Behringer X-touch but have not decided anything yet. I want to see more videos first. Your review indicates that some features work in MC 7 and other features do not work.

Just showing my ignorance here, but, I thought that since the X-touch utilizes Mackie emulation everything would work by selecting the Mackie emulation in Mixcraft preferences under control surfaces. Is my assumption wrong?

Also, keep us posted as you test your X-touch.

Thanks,

Barry

Hi,

Have you tried using the MIDI Learn features of Mixcraft 7 to map additional controls?

The Mackie control in Mixcraft preferences is checked but it only set up the functions I listed in my original post.
I have tried the midi learn to map to the other buttons on the xtouch but that doesn't work .
I haven't figured out anyway to gain more use of the Xtouch than my original review

Overall I am still very happy with my Xtouch purchase
I have paired it with a Novation Zero SLMk2 and between the two
I am happy of the controls I have over Mixcraft without using the mouse

Perhaps Behringer will give us more access to use the functions that we presently cannot use with mixcraft with a future firmware update

That's weird that the midi learn doesn't work....... Have you tried unselecting the Mackie Controller box and setting up the controller with just midi learn? I know it's a pain but it could be worth a shot.

I did try setting it up that why and that doesn't work either.

I did find out on the behringer forum that

"The X-Touch is not designed as a MIDI CC Controller, if that is what you are looking to achieve with your X-TOUCH then you will want to switch over to the X-TOUCH COMPACT or X-TOUCH MINI as that is what they are designed for."

When asked about all the buttons not working Behringer replied

"As for the buttons not working, this is due to the daw manufacturer not implementing all of the buttons in its mcu/hui implementation. Behringer can't do much about that unless behringer invents the Berry-X protocol and the daw makers conforms to this new protocol...

So it looks like if I add a Xtouch Compact to my existing set up the midi learn will work on the Compact version

Still enjoying what the Xtouch can do with Mixcraft.
The one feature I really wish would work is the Plugin button on the Encoder assign.
I have seen a Behringer video of how to use that function with Logic and would love to have that feature work with Mixcraft.
Not sure if that is something Behringer could do with a firmware update or if it is something Mixcraft would have to implicate
but it is really impressive.

heres a link to what I wish was posssible with Mixcraft

try the last couple of pages of this thread-

so,this is the real question-
http://forum.music-group.com/showthread ... estion-MCU

3. What DAW works most seamlessly with the X-touch?
Each DAW has different implementation of MCU/HUI. You will need to contact your DAW manufacturer for more information on how they implement there control protocols with external controllers like the X-TOUCH.

Hi,
I'm debating between the X touch and the compact for Mixcraft 7. Just wondering if you have any updates on how things are running and if any updates have made the non working buttons work.

Thanks!
