I'd like folder tracks to be added that have no functionality except for organization.

I don't find submix tracks very friendly for organization since you have to solo the entire sumbix track before you can solo individual instruments, they don't preserve the track numbers, and you can't put sends in them.

I think a way to go directly to our VSTi without having to click the little keyboard and then edit would be nice. Once I've already selected the synth I'm using I don't really need to see that menu that often and it's just another interface I have to click through to get to my synth interface. Something like this would be nice:

Pretty small, I know, but just a little QOL update.

Try right clicking on the instrument icon Dan.

In the case of most VSTi it will open just the same as the left click/edit path you describe.

There are some exceptions/anomalies however which could still be useful or maybe not so much.
For instance a track using the Acoustica expanded instruments will open the effects when right clicked.
A track utilizing Omni sampler for example, will open the sampler when right clicked.
Third party instruments seem to consistently open the same as the edit button would though.

Oh wow, how I've never noticed that after all these years is beyond me. I figured it was probably there but couldn't figure it out. Thanks Mark! It's a good thing too, that precious button space could be better used for future sidechain/routing

Edit: Oh wowey. This works for the fx chain too! What a fun little feature.

Just goes to show ya, always read the manual.

Have midi transposition option in track box e.g. to automatically transpose all incoming notes by 2 octaves whilst another track could transpose by a couple of steps, for example (It's been a while but I seem to remember Samplitude having this feature?)
OK. I'm an idiot. I forgot you CAN do this in the Track details box!

I don't really care for the Omni Sampler. I find it much easier to simply select my instrument of choice and go from there. There are times when I might go through a dozen or so instruments until I find the one I like. Yes, I could load a sound font VST but that isn't quite what I had in mind either. I would like to simply create my own instrument so I can pull it up as easily as the Mixcraft instruments.

Don't know if someone's already said these but here's a couple more things I've noticed that I'd like to see in Mixcraft 8:

-Exporting Sends. I would love it if I could do all my vocal FX on a send track, that way if I want to export stems with both dry vocals AND a stem of purely the wet fx, I can.

-Stem Names. I don't like the fact that when I export stems it automatically names them "File Name - Track # - Track Name." I would like the option to cut all that out and go with simply "Track Name." If I'm recording a client but someone else is mixing, I have enough faith in my own abilities to be able to export all the tracks with names like "d kick" and "v main vox" and so on. I don't need MIxcraft messing up my system only so I can go back and manually rename it all.

Surprise! I am going to make a library related suggestion!

I think there's a need to expand the "bread and butter" natural sounding old fashioned one shot percussion samples.
Yep, wood blocks. Less butchered and processed claps.
shakers, cow bell, etc. etc. Maybe some more tambo?
Simple, realistic, basic standard stuff.

More of these should be standard I think, users shouldn't have to acquire or make our own library of these basics. 8)

Keep in mind that each "instrument" is really a preset that contains virtual instrument plugins, and you can save new instrument presets.

So if you find a soundfont player you like, you can load the soundfont into the player, save the Instrument preset, and you'll have an easy-to-recall instrument to use.

MIDI clip management

Post by rrichard63 »

This has already been mentioned several times, but I would like to add my vote.

For my desired workflow, I need a MIDI clip librarian. Or at least a file system browser with MIDI preview (either the default piano sound or a drop-down menu of sounds). Having looked at Mixcraft 7 somewhat carefully now, I think I'm going to have to put it aside until it has that feature.

I think the cleanest way to implement this is a new tab alongside the Project, Sound, Mixer and Library tabs. It's important to me that it include the ability to save MIDI clips to the library directly from tracks and clips in the Performance view. The alternative -- saving them to the file system and then importing them into the library as a separate step -- seems unnecessarily time consuming to me.

Since MIDI clips are small, when importing from the file system instead of from Mixcraft itself, the librarian could import the actual contents rather than storing path and file names. Since edits would be saved in the library rather than to the original file, it would be helpful to be able to export clips as well as import them.

Thanks,
Bob Richard

I would like to see more vocal FX, like a Vocoder or something...one that doesn't require a carrier device. In the library, how about more samples in the scale of E minor, and D minor? How about a simple High Pass filter....and not just a preset on a full blown EQ. I think it would be cool to have a little button on each track, HP and LP filter. Thanks.

A nice rim-shot would be appropriate here. :D
