Playing live

Post by larrimo »

Hi! I wasn't sure where to post this but it ultimately deals with drums, so here I go:

Basically what I'm trying to do is have a lappy beside me that will control drums so that when I'm playing live for my church group, if they decide they want to run a chorus one more time or jump to a different part of the song, I can cue that up with the touch of a button WITHOUT it messing up the tempo so it would have to finish out the bar THEN jump to what I want it to.

I haven't figured out a way to do it with Mixcraft 5/6 or Beatcraft yet.

Is this possible with Beatcraft/Mixcraft? Or do you know of any other software that might do it (Short of buying a Mac and going GarageBand :D)

You can do it with Beatcraft.

First, program all of your patterns. Then, choose a pattern and use Ctrl-Space to start playback. In the list of patterns you can now arrow up or down to the next pattern and it will start playing that pattern in tempo without stopping.

What you want to do would be tricky with Mixcraft.

As far as other software, Ableton Live is made to do this.

Thanks. I'll check out the Ableton and see what's up with that. And toy with Beatcraft a bit as well.
