Casio PX-5s as midi controller?

Hi all,

Anybody tried using a Casio PX-5s as a midi controller? I'd like to map the sliders and knobs, but Mixcraft doesn't seem to recognize the control when I'm in the midi learn mode. I'm new at this, and have only seen a few tutorials, so I'm probably missing something big.

Thanks.

Have you added the Casio PX-5s to the Control Surfaces within Mixcraft?

It doesn't seem like I can add it. I did find that I can assign controllers with the midi learn under Mix>Midi Control Surface... and save those settings, but it never shows up in Preferences>Control Surfaces. Why it didn't work just from hitting the "Midi" button in the program's interface I don't know.

Hi,

You can't add it to control surface preferences unless we have a pre-made option for it.

Mix menu > MIDI Control Surface is the right place to look, as you've found.

Can you tell if your computer is receiving any MIDI from the Casio? Does the PX-5 show up as a MIDI device in Windows?

Greg

Yes, PC is receiving midi from the Casio. I played around with it a little more, and I can at least program the sliders and knobs. I haven't tried the wheels yet. What I was sort of hoping I could do was to have keys act independently from each other, but so far that's not working. They all show up as simply "88." It's probably me not understanding something fundamental.
