I've been using MX for years and haven't run into this before: The mp3 mixdown of my song is significantly lower in volume than playback in MX. Any ideas?
thx!
Joel.

No, master vol is lower than 0.0. I'm starting to get confused with my volume settings, so let me try to sort myself out and get back to you.

Meanwhile, let me ask you about volume settings in general, stuff I should really know by now. I have never had a basic understanding of how volumes should be set.I had the master slider way down on this song (and it sounded good in playback) because having it any higher would cause distortion and the meter going into the red. Does that mean I have all the track volumes too high? I've always just gone by how it sounded and figured it's ok to have the master fader turned down as long as playback and mixdowns sounded good and had normal volume. Are there a couple of basic rules about this? Should you always aim to adjust individual track volumes so that things work out with the master volume near 0.0.

Thanks for any knowledge you can impart!

Hi - I often suggest going back to some of the awesome Mixcraft University videos - these might be of help to you:

Hi,

And always remember, if the mixed down sound is different than what you hear in the project, please review this post: https://forums.acoustica.com/viewtopic.php?t=24566

I put the Mixcraft master slider on zero and never touch it. It has no purpose to me. Never ever not at unity for my use.

OP- Put it on zero and mixdown. The volume problem will be fixed.
The additional questions you raise are about gain staging- and the reply will be longer than I have time for right now.
So for the time being- just try the above suggestion.

Cameron also did a video on gain staging in Mixcraft: https://youtu.be/BI-6oRKQxZ0

Never move the master fader from unity unless you have a very good reason to.
