Can You Add: "Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner" to Mixcraft Effects!!
Dan, Greg, Eric, anybody:
***Anyway you can add Spin It Again's Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner to Mixcraft's effects list?
--->It's incredible how well it's cleaning up Mellotron Samples!!!! I have about 500files to clean up!
Sure would save me ton's of time!
*** Whatever you guys are doing in this noise reduction effect, it's working wonders eliminating excessive Mellotron tape hiss!
Spin It Again's effect list below:
--->Listen to:"original noisy sample" vs "non-noisy sample" after using Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner

Hi,
Did you try using the noise reduction feature that's already in Mixcraft?

Thanks for the reply Greg,
And yes I did try the noise reduction already in Mixcraft. It couldn't find the noise sample. And nothing I tried manually worked.
-->There's some black magic going on with SpinItAgain. See the screen captures below, they're the before and after on the "F5" Violin-Cello sample. (same sample Mixcraft's noise feature didn't work on).
-->As you can see, there's a huge noise (tape hiss) component that's getting removed. That's a MAJOR improvement!
(This is using the Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner effect) in SpinItAgain, then EQ'ing it further in Mixcraft)
Adding Mixcraft's "Acoustica 31 band EQ" effect to SpinItAgain's effect list would be valuable. And adding Voxengo's SA effect too.
*** Original Sample:
*** Sample after SpinItAgain noise reduction, and also 0-50Hz and 10K-20K cut with Mixcraft 31band EQ

Obviously a bit difficult to comment without actually hearing it but it looks like basic HPF and LPF has been applied.SirLanceALot wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 6:50 am -->As you can see, there's a huge noise (tape hiss) component that's getting removed.

aj113,
Scroll up to my earlier post,
where I included a short .mp3 file of the before and after, cleaning up an F5 violin-cello sample.
It's called: SpinItAgain-NRoff-vs-NRon.mp3
The 1st half is the original sample, the last half is after EQing down the low and hi ends in Mixcraft, then running SpinItAgain to remove the dominant tape hiss.
—> The peak levels of the inst fundamentals stay pretty much the same, while the baseline which is mostly wide spectrum noise is greatly reduced.
edit: the EQ roll off points changed across the keyboard, making sure I didn’t kill the low Hz’s on the low notes.

Re: Can You Add: "Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner" to Mixcraft Effects!!
Greg,
Sorry I keep asking questions about this.
But -->Is the Noise Reduction routine in Mixcraft, totally different than the one in Spin-It-Again?
Both seem similar, they have start/end points for the noise analysis.
However, I can't get that to work in Mixcraft,
but somehow Spin-it-Again automatically finds the points. Or whatever it's doing, and it's working.
Spin-It-Again might be a legacy product, but I'd definitely pull it's noise reduction code out and add it to Mixcraft's effects list for your next release. I've used it relentlessly on my old cassette band tapes, and on a few of my pre-DBX reel to reel tapes.
-->Currently I'm using it on the entire Mellotron tape library. Wish I could batch process all that, it's very very time consuming, but the results are worth it.

Hi Lance.
I have always assumed the noise reduction algorithm was the same between the two products. But I can't say with any authority.
And I haven't had any frequent cause to use or explore its function.
I can however agree with the opinion that the implementation in Mixcraft left a lot to be desired and is several versions old.
Finding those end points and selecting/applying them isn't exactly an intuitive function. And that's not the whole of it.

There are loads of plugins that will do what you need that are better, more efficient and easier to use, even free. Not to knock MC but it is an old version, with so many options I'm sure you could find something that makes the process easier for you.

Rolling Estonian or Mark Bliss,
*** You both mentioned there were better noise reduction plugins.

Just do a search for Noise reduction. Don't get too deep into the rabbit hole that can be vst.

Thanks M,
It doesn’t have to be a VST. But if it is, it’s much quicker to use that on all the existing projects I’ve already created.
It’s quite a feat to remove all the noise, without effecting the sound of the instrument. (Speaking of the Mellotron sample libraries). Somehow Spin-It-Again’s NR is getting the job done.

Re: Can You Add: "Acoustica Advanced Vinyl Cleaner" to Mixcraft Effects!!
I thought Mellotron samples were supposed to be noisy! Part of the original character and all...
What I meant is that I try to avoid needing to use noise reduction. I did some vintage tape recovery and digitized some old rare vinyl a few years ago, but haven't used noise reduction since.
That said, iZotopes RX Elements has some fairly basic noise removal tools and can be found for about $30 on sale.
I can't say it is nay better or worse than another- honestly. It came with a bundle, and I experimented with it once maybe. But I didnt inhale. I swear.

The thing that Spin It Again had that Mixcraft doesn't is pop and click removal, so look for a plugin that does that.
