album / lookup track - round 3 - kludge workaround

Post by rnmerchant »

For anyone that is interested, with the Spin-it-Again lookup not working I have developed a kludge workaround. Perhaps others more clever than myself can describe a better technique. But this is what I do:

(a) export 'wav' files with SIA. The filenames are just Track01.wav etc etc.
(b) convert 'wav' files to 'flac' with fre:ac (https://www.freac.org/). I don't think WAV files store tags properly so I use this step. Doesn't rename the files.
(c) use Mp3tag (https://www.mp3tag.de/en/) to tag the files with the appropriate tags (song title, artist, album, etc) using one of the databases built into that program. Mostly Musicbrainz works well, occasionally need Discogs. If Musicbrainz doesn't have the album I build it in the program (often using Discogs because it seems to have everything). Filenames are still wrong.
(d) use ReNamer Lite (http://www.den4b.com/) to rename the files on disc using the tags from the *.flac files. I use this set of rules to rename then serialize (so they stay in the right order) the files:
1) Insert: Insert ":FLAC_Title:" replacing current name (skip extension)
2) Serialize: Incremental from 1 repeat 1 step 1 and pad to length 2 as Prefix (skip extension)
3) Insert: Insert " - " at Position 3 (skip extension)

Seems a bit silly to go through all that but in fact the only difference for the way I normally manage my digitized files is the need to rename them. So in fact I guess I shouldn't complain so loudly about SIA not working so well.

If anyone can enhance this please tell me. My gratitude to the three programmers who offer the free software that I quote!

Richard
