Wav to MP3 conversion error

I have several *.wav files that I can successfully play in Windows Media Player but which won't convert to MP3. I get an error stating the files are corrupt or contain no data. Can anyone give me suggestion?

Those wave files are probably wrapped around some other audio format that we don't support. Can you use Windows Media Player to figure out what format it thinks it is?

I tried using the player to get more info ont he wav vile but did not succeed. Any hints on how to do this.
