Fabulous! Yes, you are onto something here. Good job!
What I like is your preservation of the core melody, but you didn't sacrifice the epicosity (not a word in the dictionary, but it should be) of the meter of the piece. In other words, you straddled the line between rock and classical rhythms. As the chorus was playing, I was running the original in my head, which obviously has a different feel. If you had tried to stick to that rock style it would have cheapened the overall mood of the piece. (IMO) Instead you definitely gave it that high seas, Jack Sparrow excitement one would expect when watching such a film.
Also, great orchestral plugins. You know your way around them. And excellent mix too.
