Getting the Korg nanoKontrol2 working with MX7 in Mackie mode

Is it OK if I revive this thread?

With the help of a friend we were able to make it work up to a degree.
The problem is that no matter which knobs or sliders you move, only track that responds is track #1.

This is a very confusing gadget, supposed to simplify our workflow? I don't know. So far it's been nothing but a pain.

Could there be something similar to work in MX8?

Hi,

You're still using Mixcraft 8? Do your settings in Control Surface preferences look like this?

On the hardware side, make sure that the Nanokontrol2 is set to be in Mackie Control mode. Check your user manual for information how to do that: https://www.korg.com/us/support/downloa ... /159/1912/

For example, the instructions for Cubase tell you how to get into Mackie Control mode.

Here's a file you can use in Korg Kontrol Editor that I've set up. You'll still have to do midi learn in MC but it works great for me. Mackie never worked for me.

Hi Greg,

Thank you, and yes I see these in the preferences. However, I have to connect the nano BEFORE opening Mixcraft, something that is never mentioned anywhere I read or watched. So there is a sequence to follow.

1- BEFORE starting Mixcraft, connect the nanoKontrol2.
2- In my case, I need to hold Set and PLAY while plugging the unit.
3- Open Mixcraft, and now it's showing in the Preferences (Control surfaces, Mackie Control).

Now, when I move the volume slider on the nanoKontrol, it moves the PAN slider in Mixcraft. And that's the only thing that seems to work, and no matter which slider I move across the 8, only the track #1 responds.

Here is what I see in the Kontrol Editor.

But I have no idea what to do from here. Do you know of any video that shows the next steps?

thanks!

To my shame I never used MIDI Learn in MC. Checking for videos now.

Keep the setup that I sent and use midi learn like so.

It takes a minute but it goes quick after the first couple!

OK thanks! Will watch again, as I tried a first pass but nothing seemed to be affected. Will report back when it gets working.

Much appreciated,

Andre

EDIT: I was wrong. I have to hold down SET + REWIND and plug the nanoKontrol2.

Now in Mixcraft I can control Track #1 properly with the buttons. But ONLY Track #1. None of the other tracks respond.

Here is what I see in the Korg Kontrol Editor. Yet ALL knobs and sliders respond properly on Track #1.

If you hold down the those buttons the NK will go into Mackie mode, which I think pretty much resets it. I just use my template and go through each button and assign it like in the video. I also think you have to 'write scene' in Korg Kontrol Editor, and you can't have the Korg Kontrol editor open at the same time as MC.

Yes, I hear you. And I would LOVE to not look stupid and just have successfully done this already. :)

But you know, when you watch a few tutorial videos, and it does NOT reflect your reality despite spending hours repeating the steps and still not getting the results, and calling yourself names for being so dumb and why can't you get it? Yep. That's me.

In my mind, there is a MISSING link, something that is not being shown, or told, maybe taken for granted that people should know (which obviously I don't).

The fact I'm still here trying to figure it out is however not a sign I'm stupid, but that I missed something in all the instructions I've read and watched over the past week. Yours were the first sign of hope I got. But...

I even have a friend who is VERY fluent with control surfaces and MIDI come here the other night, and spent hours trying to make this work. All we could do was make one track work. All other tracks don't respond. So it's a mystery why it's not working.

But thank you for your help, I'm grateful for it, make no mistake. :) Just frustration talking. I just don't know why it's not working as advertized.

I'm sure it's something pretty simple, Korg doesn't make things easy that's for sure! Maybe try a factory reset of the Korg then use the template I sent and upload that to the NK2, open a new project with 7 tracks and try midi learn like the video from MC.

Maybe Trevor would be so kind as to make a brief video for his new YT channel! I know he has a NK2 and is always willing to help!

Oh Trevor!!!!!! LOL

I'll go back to it for sure, maybe a new project?

If only Trevor... :)
