(Mixcraft 8) Unable to record with virtual instruments

Hello everyone.

I apologize if the answer to this question is painfully obvious. I am very new to Mixcraft 8, and I am just trying to record some simple notes with a virtual instrument using my computer keyboard (musical typing).

When I try to record with any armed virtual instrument, the timeline is highlighted in red, an no recording takes place. See the attached image. I cannot hear the notes while I play them either. However, when I have the musical typing GUI open and I am not recording, I can hear notes.

Am I doing something wrong?

Click that down arrow next to the record arm button.

Do you have 'all midi devices' > all midi channels selected?

And you do have View > Musical Typing open?

This was the solution! I just had to have the musical typing window open while recording.
