Bouncing audio tracks.

Post by Drdish007 »

Hi,
I watched a video promoting Pro Tools. The engineer/ teachers were showing how their audio engine worked at capturing all data of an audio sound file. They took a sound and bounced it to two different tracks. They then inverted one of the tracks, and played both. Their goal was that the master output should be silent, as the sounds should cancel each other out.
This morning I tried this with MC10.5PS. I loaded a stereo audio file on two tracks, flipped the polarity of one track a d played the tracks. No sound came out, and no signal showed on the output meaters.

That is a very old trick going back to the days studios used tape decks. You could tell if your playback and record heads were aligned or not or had a difference in sound levels from each channel.
In the digital age this should always work regardless of daw used unless something has gone wrong in the recording chain.
