Looking for an 'out of phase' type effect

Hi - I'm hoping someone can either suggest a plugin that will do what I'm looking for, or perhaps suggest some other way of achieving it.
Basically, I want to reproduce the sound of two guitar pickups that are out of phase with each other. Very thin and toppy, not much bottom end (I've experimented with EQ but either it isn't possible with plain EQ or else I don't know what I'm doing).
I have an SG that I love, and asked about modding it to add a phase switch - but was told the body of the guitar isn'tdeep enough to accomodate one. I also have an old Westone Thunder that *does* have a phase switch on it, and I use that sometimes - but it ain't an SG.
Any suggestions? Or is it something that could only be done in hardware?
