Merging question

Hello,
Will merging multiple clips (audio or Midi) in a single track and duplicating that track, delete all of the editing that's hidden under all of the original clips? Trying to save on CPU and Mixcraft usage. Of course this would be after deleting the original track.

Merging clips will combine the multiple clips into 1. That means the original clips won't be there any more. Any edits or changes you made will be merged into the new clip. So if Clip (A) had CC1 edits and Clip (B) had CC64 edits, the merged Clip (C) would contain both the CC1 edits and the CC64 edits.

If you duplicate the track before merging, your original clips in their original states will still be there for you. Once you are confident that your merged clips are what you want, you can delete the extra track. You can also undo a merge if you made a mistake.

I have a bad habit of dragging a clip that I don't want to delete yet to the end of the time line to move it out of the way, then start working again on the project in the correct time line. Then I may drag half of it back up to fit in where I need. I have so many parts and pieces scattered all over the place on a single track that it's beyond ridiculous, but I just don't want to lose any ideas. My organization skills are non existent. Any obvious thoughts?

Hi,

Of course duplicating the track can work but maybe gives you you way more than you need.

How about create an extra lane, Alt+Drag to copy the clip to the new lane directly below where the clip goes in the song. You can mute the clip, merge your other clips in the "good" lane , but if you need that clip, it is right in the spot timewise you want it just in a new lane on the same track.

So by doing that, will that delete or remove all of the editing that might be hiding under the original clip or hopefully, remove the editing from the clip in the new lane to help with CPU usage?

No, it's just a copy of the clip. The clip remains intact with what ever editing you did. I might not be understanding your goal.

If you merge multiple clips, all of the edits you did get merged into the newly created clip.

I thought you wanted to hold onto an original clip in case you wanted to make future edits or see what you had changed.

Actually you do understand my goal and you answered it perfectly! I'm just overly bad at explaining myself. I will create a new lane for the clips, then merge the original clips. Then freeze the newly created lane until I feel comfortable deleting it.

Hi,

You can't freeze lanes, you can only mute the clips on them. Right click on the lane and choose mute. That would mute all of the clips on that lane at once
