Thanks Mark, that's insightful I've generally found that switching to the same sample rate as the stems has improved performance, hence using 44.1kHz for these stems - I usually use 48kHz otherwise. In this case switching to 48kHz makes it worse. I can't alter my bit depth in the preferences when us...

I'm using Mixcraft 9 Pro Studio Build 462 on Windows 10 with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16Gb RAM Sample rate is 44.1kHz, same as the stems in the project I'm working on, 32 bits, using the largest available buffer (1016 samples, 23ms). Yes latest build

I'm using Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 as my ASIO device, 44.1kHz 32bit 120 buffer. As the issue is no longer affecting rendering I've not really paid attention to it but I'll try to keep a note of when it happens and under what circumstances

Yes that's exactly what I was doing, same thing happened when I tried the same thing using a different plugin's volume. I disabled all third party plugins and they made no difference, even with just the EQ plugin and audio control it was crashing the project - no crashes once removed. I'll see if I ...
