Adding a loop splits tracks *when recording*

Post by MikaB »

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been asked before (I have searched and found nothing).

When I mark a section of a project to loop (for recording several takes) I note that it splits the track into a clip equal to the loop length (start/finish) when I press record to add a take to this track.

But I don't want to create any clips, I just want to loop the section!

Am I doing something wrong or what feature is this? I'm using Takes mode. Page 77 of the manual does *not* say that looping a section will cut your existing track into a clip to fit this loop section. That seems to only be true for Punch In/Out. But I am not using Punch In/Out mode.

Thanks,

Mika

(Edited to reflect it is the record function that is doing this, not the loop selection mode.)

Hi,

Do you have Punch In/Punch Out enabled?

Hi Greg!

Nope, just loop recording.

I mark a section of the tracks, press L and get the blue box.

I then hit Record (or rewind and then Record) and *at that point* Mixcraft splits the track I am recording on to fit the loop.

If you need a screencap let me know, maybe I can make one.

That's why I was surprised, since Punch In/Out isn't lit up/enabled.

I'll double-check again tonight but I'm 99% sure it's just the loop. When I mark a loop and do Punch In/Out, it splits the track at the Punch In/Out markers, not the loop markers.

Cheers,

Mika

Hi,

Sorry, I tried it again. I was in Overdub mode. It does that in Takes mode because that mode is designed for you to do "takes," assuming that one of those takes will replace the original section. The section is split off to make that easier.

Hi,

Ah OK, well, as long as nothing is lost that's fine. I'm really loving Mixcraft 9, was just concerned I'd got something wrong with the new interface.

If I really want to avoid it I can of course simply record in a new track, which will leave the other tracks unaffected. Still getting to grips with the whole tracking and takes thing anyway...

Back to recording tomorrow!

Cheers,
