MIDI Control Surface Problem

Post by TrevsAudio »

Hey Guys

Trying to hook up my Korg NanoKontrol 2; it's recognized, and all the usual controls are working, but I can't find a way to control the Gain in the mixer panel. I specifically want this for gain staging.

I've set up 8 tracks in Mixcraft and have MIDI Learn on. The gain knobs are all highlighted. But when I assign a knob (or fader) on the Korg to track one, it seems all the gain knobs in Mixcraft are grouped with the same fader control number. So, if I select track 2 and move a different knob, all tracks assume that controller number. And then, if I move track 1's controller knob, only the last track (8) gain knob responds.

Any help or guidance muchly appreciated :?

Hi,

How did you set it up? Did you try going into Control Surface preferences and selecting Mackie Control?

Hi Greg - yes Mackie Control is selected, but it's still performing the same behavior.

I wonder if perhaps any other users who have a Korg NanoKontrol2 could try and automate the gain control in the mixer.

Hi,

I actually have one of those! I guess for the Gain knob in the mixer, you'd have to switch to CC mode, and then use MIDI Learn to map everything. From the manual:

While pressing and holding down the SET MARKER and CYCLE
buttons, connect the USB cable from your computer to the
nanoKONTROL2 and engage CC mode.

If you did this, then you wouldn't be using Mackie Control, and you'd have to map everything else. The upside of that is that you can map everything just the way you want.

I read something a bit ago about korg midi connections to windows where the drivers had to be completely removed or something and then reinstalled and selected. I can't recall exactly what it was but it was korg specific and a common problem when trying to connect hardware through MIDI to windows 10. A search on the web might find the related info

A bit late but IIRC Korg has a few little programs to get up and running properly. I remember there's a limited number of slots for midi controllers, I think it's 10. If you're controller is in the 11th spot it won't work and some of the other slots need to be deleted so the controller can be used. I'm at work now but I think if you have the Korg install programs it's in there. Hope this helps.
