Recording Acoustic Guitar With Mixcraft

I have a difficult time getting a good acoustic guitar sound in my recordings (could be my playing also, but ). If anyone has some songs they have created in Mixcraft with acoustic guitar work please provide a link and tell me how you recorded it and what effects you may have used. Is it direct input (DI) through a pickup, was it recorded through an amp and microphone set-up, was it done by microphone only and effects added later? The more information the better.

SM57 no more than1 foot from the 12th fret. Works every time for me. Hi pass, low pass and a bit of reverb.

Keep 'em comin! I'm beginning to think it's the guitar player and not the equipment . I like AJ's and the video posted by Trevlyn gives me some other ideas to work on.

I don't usually post my stuff but this is something acoustic I did about 2 years ago.

The guitar used was my Epiphone Jeff Skunk Baxter signature guitar which is an electro acoustic.

The interface I used was my Line 6 X3, it was set up to use the Line 6 console amp with a little brightening of the middle and top end using EQ on the line 6 pedal. The mic was using a "No amp" setting with some re-verb (a bit too much in hindsight). I should have recorded it dry and applied the re-verb in post production.

I used Mixcraft as the DAW (Mixcraft 5) but to be honest very little in MIxcraft itself.

Very clean. Also close to the sound I am looking for. I don't have an SM57 (I should because of it's versatility) but I'll give the mike placement some work. I have an MXL 990 and 991 condenser, different sound out of each. Thanks for the example.

The Shure SM57 is a great multi-propose microphone and will work, but you can get much better results recording acoustic guitar with a good condenser mic(s) (small, medium, or large size diaphragms) - and mic placement along with good room acoustics are very, very important. For example, just recording in a different space within a given room can make a big difference. Google microphone placement.

I beg to differ. I use a an SM57 from choice.

Yeah I use 57s on just about everything even though I've got about 30 other mics.

Been doing a lot of research on recording acoustic guitar. Have to admit the SM57 is the preferred choice of many engineers. Some classical work though does call for the sweeter sound of the condenser. It all boils down to the sound you are trying to capture or create. I think I need a new acoustic guitar! Maybe I can use these comments to convince my wife I need another guitar (yeah right! ).
