I have an M-audio usb audiophile external soundcard, if you want to call it that, Guitar Rig 2 software, and, of course, Mixcraft.
How can I record from the Guitar Rig 2 software direct into Mixcraft please? Any idea if that's possible? I think you'd need to be setting up the Mixcraft inputs to accept signal from a software device (GR2) as opposed to the hardware device (the audiophile) and I can't see a way of doing that. I'm going round in circles, here, I finally found a good guitar sound I like on GR2 and I can't seem to record with it. I can record basic untreated guitar and then use GR2 as an effect and mix down and render as a wav of course but it all seems a little complicated. I figured out how to do it the hard way but I'd like to think there was an easy way I'm missing!

output to input?

You might want to ask el34 directly, I am pretty sure he uses GR2 as well.

Hey Bill,
I already sent you this link, but just in case others are interested.

You can use Guitar rig as a VST effect in M3, but I found that process bogs down my computer. Especially since I may run as many as 10 guitar tracks on a project.
I record the wav output of Guitar rig directly through a SB audigy card that uses ASIO 2.0 drivers to drive the Guitar rig engine.
I use a second soundcard to play back my mixes when I overdub so that the playback mix and the wav output from Guitar rig are not recorded at the same time.
You can choose two different sound cards in Mixcraft 3.
One for playback and one for recording.
The guitar rig card has to have good ASIO drivers.
The playback card can be the built in card on your MOBO.
Guitar rig is using the ASIO driver to process the sound and so I record the wav output direct. I don't use ASIO in mixcraft 3.
It's like recording in th studio in the good ole days when you set up your rig, recorded to tape and that was your sound. What you hear/play is what you get.
Here's a page with a ton of tunes I created with guitar rig and Mixcraft.

BTW: I use guitar rig for vocals effects and I record Bass guitar with it also. It's quite handy.
