EWQL Promotion

Post by clavguy »

WOW

I wish I had 900 bucks burning a hole in my pocket. EWQL is running a promotion that gets you over 75% off. But you need to buy 7 items and you get the 8th one free... so
$899 gets you $3513 worth of stuff

I don't know if two or three people can buy in to this then split it

No. You can't transfer licenses. period. I inquired a few weeks back about registering a couple of eBay purchases if I were the successful bidder and got a definitive (very very definitive) statement that ALL ebay purchases were illegal as were license transfers. They then attached their complete Terms of Service just to further make the point

That still is the best deal in the world. There are libraries for Kontakt that are equal to or better than the EWQL stuff but you also pay big time. About this time next year I'll be doing a major library upgrade. Hopefully since it's also their anniversary the offer will be repeated.

What a ludicrous pricing policy. It doesn't take much intelligence to realise that lower, more realistic pricing would make it more accessible to a larger customer base. Even the Waves manufacturers are starting to wake up to this by releasing individual plugins at more affordable prices. And it has to be said, Mixcraft is an example of such sensible pricing.

Agreed. When I began researching sound libraries last year I was astounded at the prices they commanded. Couple that with absolutely convoluted registration procedures and huge RAM and CPU requirements and it becomes obvious they want to keep the general public out. Check out the Spitfire libraries on your side of the pond....and that's only available as a download!

Spitfire costs a lot less and the examples seem good. Do you have any experience of it?

My God, is any software really worth three grand?
I am just floored by some of the prices out there.

@ianpb: Albion 1 plus Albion 2 comes to about the same price plus then you still have to look for solo instruments and choir. I just found Spitfire a few days ago and am very impressed with the samples (unlike most) and they are definitely on my short list for next year. Notice they are recorded on tape rather than digital (I would assume it's analog tape since digital tape would yield the same quality samples as normal digital) so that the samples are probably ADD like the first CDs so will yield a warmer more realistic string sound. The idea of committing that amount of money to a download from another continent really creeps me out though.

@Eric the same question I asked, but shopping around the answer seems to be yes if you want that quality sound as when you pay less you get less, often A LOT less in quality and usability. If you look at the specs for these libraries you can see why I was so interested in jBridge.

My Hero!

So since about 1/2 the people on the EWQL forums seem to use JBridge it appears EWQL libraries at their extreme will be a go for MixCraft. I'll have to bite the bullet and actually buy jBridge to give it a good test with Kontakt to see how all the other stuff we were talking about will stand up.

WHOA WHOA... Back the sample truck up....

What is JBridge and what does it have to do with EWQL libraries and Mixcraft.. I am using EWQL Symphonic Gold and Goliath just fine with Mixcraft as is... right out of the box...

I do agree with you about prices though....
but, have you looked at LA Strings and the Vienna stuff?

LOL ya. I only glanced at LA Strings, but had a long hard look at VSL. To get what I want there would be <> $6K.....and probably a divorce. I got a stripped down version of VSL with Kontakt and quite frankly after playing with it for awhile am not tempted in the slightest to spend another $6000 on it.

If you google jBridge and read the site you'll probably leave, as I did, more confused than when you entered. Thus Acoustica Eric bravely took the plunge and tested it for us. In short, jBridge is a VST wrapper that enables you to run 64 bit VSTs in a 32 bit host, 32 bit VSTs in a 64 bit host and more important to our applications, 32 bit VSTs in a 32 bit host, while accessing more than the 4 gigs of RAM you can with a 32 bit application. It does this by running each VST as a separate process so that, using jBridge, Mixcraft would run in its own process and have 4 gigs of RAM available to it. Each VST wrapped in jBridge would run in its own process and be able to access , from what I've read, 4 more gigs of RAM if it as a 32 bit VST or up to 96 gigs if it is a 64 bit VST. Wrappers have been around for awhile. Several other DAWs have their own wrapper which work with varying degrees of success, so a lot of folks just use jBridge.

For EWQLSO gold and Goliath I would not imagine you would have problems running out of the box, but EWQLSO platinum, Pianos platinum, Symphonic Choirs, or any of the Hollywood series probably would not function for more than a couple of instances if used unwrapped in MixCraft. If you check the recommended (not minimum) specs you'll see many suggest 8 or even 16 gigs (in the case of some of the Kontakt offerings) of RAM. If you can only access 4 gigs directly from Mixcraft, you need a wrapper if you want to utilize those libraries to the fullest.

Ok... I get it now.... Thanks

One more question, though...

Does that mean on my Windows 7, 64 bit machine, I can start using 64 bit libraries if I use JBridge?

It's only been tested once in Mixcraft, but theoretically, YUP! :D

I tested it on about 6 plugins, and Greg had also tested it a while back.

Were Play, Sample Tank, or Kontakt any of those tested?
