Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Mixcraft will load any video file that your computer has a codec for. Generally, if you install a codec pack like k-lite, that will cover most common video file types

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
I'm having trouble with video files. .mp4 files won't load at all and .mpg files load the video but I get no audio track. I have installed k-lite and it makes no difference. Do I need to install it to a particular folder - currently it seems yo have installed into its own folder - or copy/paste some .dll's to the mixcraft folder?
Thanks
Thanks

Hi,
Do you have Mixcraft 6.1 build 204?
Have you restarted your computer since you installed the video codec pack? Can you play those particular videos correctly in another program right now?

Greg,
It's been a long-standing problem that I've not got round to looking into until now. But yes, I have installed b204. Here's the situation now :
.mp4 files are OK - IE MC shows a video track and an audio track and the file plays normally
.wmv files are also OK
.mpeg files are OK
.avi files cause a warning message from my firewall but do load and play OK if I "allow" them
.mpg files load a video track but no audio track. They playback silently (unsurprisingly).
.flv files cause an error window to appear "Failed to load sound......corrupt or unsupported format"
.mpg and .flv files play back normally with VLC Media Player and Windows Media Player.
I'm on XP Home SP3 if that's relevant

Hi,
It could have something to do with Windows XP, or it might be your video codecs.
Link removed. I know it says "Windows 7 Codecs," but it's also compatible with Windows XP.

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Greg,
That helps a bit but now .mpg files sometimes open with an audio track and sometimes don't. I found that inserting a space in front of the .mpg extension seemed to enable MC to open them properly. However, it doesn't work in all cases and sometimes having opened with an audio track once the file opens without audio the 2nd time I try.
.flv files still cause the same error message.

Hi,
I suppose with mpg and flv, you could use a converter program and convert them to WMV or whatever before you load them into Mixcraft.

Greg,
Yes, I could use a converter but it's not ideal.
Does this imply you're not interested in getting to the bottom of it or should I be raising a support request rather than use the forum?

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Hi,
I wonder if you'd have better luck with Windows 7. Let's see, you could focus on the individual video formats and try to find a specific video codec for .flv, rather than installing a video codec pack.
Also, make sure you've got the latest version of Windows Media Player for XP and the latest version of the video drivers for your computer.

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Greg,
I have the latest version of WMP and my drivers are all up to date.
I don't think this is XP related. Every media player I've tried plays these files. Even Cooledit which hasn't been maintained or supported for 10 years open the files, allows me to edit them and save them again. The problem seems to be confined to Mixcraft

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Hi,
That's possible, but you can play a lot more video formats inside Mixcraft than you could before after installing the video codecs, correct? And you could also play those outside Mixcraft before you installed the codecs? See what I'm saying? Mixcraft is using Microsoft's Windows video codecs, so it's possible to have a video codec from Apple, for example, and be able to play videos outside of Mixcraft, but not in Mixcraft because the correct Windows video codec isn't present. In the case of FLV, you're likely using something from Adobe to play the video.

No. .mpg is unpredictable and .flv still unplayablebut you can play a lot more video formats inside Mixcraft than you could before after installing the video codecs, correct?

No. XP is "approved" for use with Mixcraft. I've installed 2 video packs that you've recommended. But Mixcraft still can't deal with file formats that every other media related program I have handles without issue.See what I'm saying?
Fortunately, I don't mess with video very often so I'll stick with Cooledit if/when I need to. The main driver for me wanting to use Mixcraft is that Cooledit doesn't support VST's

Re: Video formats supported in Pro Studio 6
Hi,
One tricky thing about video formats is that they are not uniformly compatible. There are different "flavors" of .mpg file, so that's why some work and some don't. Many manufacturers came up with proprietary video formats for their own hardware or software without thinking about universal compatibility.
Here's something to try: right-click on the video track and select "Add A Video Clip," then change the File of Type setting to "All Files." Do you get audio if you load the videos that way?

Greg,
No, that doesn't work. I get the same behaviour as using the "Video/Add Video File" dialogue. If it's of any interest I get a different result to using "Open With" from Windows Explorer
