growing your system

Post by gypsy101 »

I have been doing some research on expanding my input/output options by daisychaining or linking audio interfaces.
the bottom line short version is- w/ usb you can't do it without running into problems (2 identical interfaces) and you can't do it @ all using ASIO.

supposedly you can use 2 different interfaces simultaneously-

but... on my system the M-Audio has 5ms latency & the Tascam US-122 has 23.55ms when run simultaneously.

also supposedly you can use ASIO4ALL as an aggregate device to like them but you will still run into clock & sync problems eventually.

the options are-
Firewire units

use Apple.

adding multiple input mic preamps & chaining those but you will still only have as many "outs" as your audio interface has.

I've recorded with 2 different audio interfaces using WaveRT, so as far as I know, that works, and my friends who own a studio told me that for band recordings they use 2 identical audio interfaces, but they don't use mixcraft, bt it should still be possible to do so somehow.

yes,it works on Wave RT but the latency is mismatched & throws all kinds of weird things.

the friend w/ the studio probably uses Fierwire units. it's possible w/ Firewire.

then problem w/ identical usb interfaces is the driver for each unit, although the same, will "fight" to be the only driver recognized under Windows based systems.there are some interfaces that are daisychainable but not many & none will do it w/ asio.
I'm sure there's a lot more going on in his studio so ask him for us,that we may learn more.

I run 2 Mackie blackbirds at the same time. Although one is connected to the other interface through ADAT. Only one interface is connected into the computer's firewire port (although the doc's say you can connect up to 4 of them). I get 16 inputs into the computer just fine.
Also several Delta 1010 and Delta 1010lt interfaces can be run on a system at the same time using a spdif cable to keep them all synced up. I had 3 delta 1010 pci cards all working in sync for years.
Mixcraft 7 Pro, Sonar Platinum, Studio One Pro, Protools 8.4, Roland VS-2480

yes,the Mackies are FIREWIRE. key word-FIREWIRE.

the Deltas were good BUT are no longer being manufactured & support has run out (as far as I know).

I think I found the modern ticket for me- Motu,w/ AVB networking capabilities-
