Melodyne Info
I've had Melodyne 4 Editor for years, but now that they've upgraded Essential to 5, I cannot use it anymore - unless I upgrade Editor at a cost of $99!
Here's the response from Celemony today: 'thanks for the mail. You can only use one Melodyne at a time. If you want Melodyne editor 4, uninstall Melodyne essential 5 and reload editor 4 from your user account.
Which means I can't use Editor in Reaper anymore too - just sayin'

Re: Melodyne Info
Hi,
The Editor upgrade to 5 isn't free? Did you give Celemony feeback about that?

Yeah that's correct, one or the other for free... If you want both, you have to pay.trevlyns wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 9:39 am I've had Melodyne 4 Editor for years, but now that they've upgraded Essential to 5, I cannot use it anymore - unless I upgrade Editor at a cost of $99!

FWIW: I rarely use Melodyne and I don’t use Reaper, so I upgraded to Melodyne essential 5.

Re: Melodyne Info
Yeah - just re-loaded MX and Melodyne 5 loads with it. For what I use it for, I'll probably just settle for Essential though

Re: Melodyne Info
On that "note", have they improved the way a note sounds when moved to an extreme position from the original? In other words, currently in #4, if I want to move a blob from G to D there's an awful duck sound to it. Any improvements on that front? If you don't know, can those of you who have #5 try it and let me know? Thanks!
Re: Melodyne Info
Hmm, I don’t remember Melodyne 4 making a duck (honk/quack?) sound, but maybe never moved a blob far enough. I’m not in my studio right now, but I’ll test it later with Melodyne 5. However, Melodyne 4 shouldn’t honk like a duck, so I recommend that you file a report with Celemony Support.jwarv wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 3:55 am On that "note", have they improved the way a note sounds when moved to an extreme position from the original? Re: Melodyne Info
Hi,
If I grab a note blob and drag it way up or down, I get no quacks in Melodyne 5. Your mileage may vary, depending on what sound you're manipulating, I suppose.

Re: Melodyne Info
Maybe duck quack is too cartoonish of a description. It's more approaching a kazoo. Which probably isn't much better.
I'll try to make a short video of what I mean and post the link.

When I move a blob I don’t get a kazoo sound with Melodyne 5.

Re: Melodyne Info
OK, cool thanks for checking.
It may relate to how it was recorded. I didn't record the original audio on this vocal. It also happened with another track by someone else who recorded at home. I will mess around with my own tracks and see what it does.
PS- I could also call it "Mallard-dyne"

Re: Melodyne Info
So, I tried it with a vocal that I recorded and got the same weird kazoo effect. Could it be the same thing that happens when you try to change the tempo of a wave loop too high or too low? It gets all squiggly sounding.
