Read on, if you have time. This got verbose quickly.

Disclaimer: I love V2. Still do. After looking back at it, it's a "Right tool for the right job" issue. V2, despite a few problems (wave form size, and crashes due to incompatible plugins mostly), Is really easy to learn and use for banging out Radio Spots where "Voice + Music = Spot" and Oh, the client wants a cat to go "meow". All of my Sales Weasels swear by it, with the exception of the Boss, who keeps saying "You gotta teach me Mixcraft sometime." Sales Weasels love it ( like I do) for being able to change one line in a project that was recorded over a year ago. V2 is almost perfection at the price point for Radio Commercials. Now. V4, I will compare to Fruity Loops, and the most recent from PG, Real Band. FL, after looking at Tutorials and such, just takes up space on my HD. I give up. Real Band works well, and the real tracks and real drums and real solos are good. However, there is some "punch" missing to it soundwise, and the kludgy design is still very linear, circa 1997 (as you wait and wait for the track to be rendered). It does the job for some things and quite well. Now, when you compare the loops of Mixcraft 4 to Real Band, and what you can do to manipulate them, there is no contest. Where I'm going with this is: Which program generates the best sounding track most quickly with the least effort Mixcraft 4 wins. 5 stars. And the price is just about the same.
