Hi,

Mixcraft doesn't have its own noise removal effect. You can use a VST or DirectX plugin from another company in Mixcraft for noise removal.

any ideas or recommendations, and as long as you are at it do you know a good program that normalizes volume or does the classic limiter do this?

Do a google search for free vst noise remover, you'll probably find something.

No compressors are not made for normalizing mp3 files, they are made for use in mixing audio projects or live music. I have used a program called mp3gain for normalizing batches of mp3 files, but be ware that this is destructive and can damage your files.
