Connecting a MIDI Keyboard

Post by botface »

I've been given an old Yamaha keyboard. It has MIDI in/out but these are via the old, round, 5-pin sockets. I also have an old soundcard - a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - that can accept MIDI via its joystick port. So, I assume the thing to do is get a MIDI to Joystick cable and give it a try. However, the Mixcraft Help says to connect MIDI via a USB interface. Does this imply that I'd be wasting my time trying to use the older MIDI to Joystick type of connection or is USB just the "normal" way it's done these days?

Any suggestions or other people's experiences would be a great help

Hi,

You can use the joystick MIDI interface. All that matters is that your sound card (and Windows) is receiving valid MIDI data. You just see all that talk about USB because that's the most common option for newer computers (especially laptops).
