usb midi keyboard controllers ???

Post by gypsy101 »

well it seems I need one now.
anybody got the lowdown on one for under $150 new that's compatible w/ vista.

here's my system-
vista 32 bit s.p. 2
intel core duo e4500@2.20GHz
4.00gb ram

I'm debating the Korg micro key 37 but I'd rather have full size keys.
it's mostly going to be used for drum programming.

I've been looking for one too, have you watched the Mixcraft University video Tutorials on control surfaces to see what they use?
I know in part 2 (http://youtu.be/XIKzo8RbGes) they use a Samson Graphite 49. It may be worth having a look at their compatibility ;)

I currently use an M-Audio Key Rig 49. Full size keys, velocity sensitive, volume, pitch and modulation control. You can find these under $120. It does use USB connectivity so not sure if that's an option.

I use an Alesis Q25 for midi control, drums and simple chord fills Full size velocity sensitive keyboard (25 keys - 2 octaves), pitch and modulation wheels, usb powered. I have it plugged in to my Focusrite 2i4 (via midi with separate usb pwer) but it works just as well plugged directly into usb port.

I am using it with Windows 7 Professional (32bit), Intel (4 core) i5-3450 @3.3Mhz and Mixcraft 6.
Here is a sunrise. Ain't that enough?

I've just bit the bullet and purchased a second hand M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 for £100 and the very nice guy threw in a double keyboard stand at no extra cost ... I've just gotta learn how to use it now :)

I looked @ some M-Audio stuff but their customer service sucks, some things don't play nice, & just the term under system requirements- "Avid qualified computer" gives me the willies.

Good point! M-Audio is moving away from being Pro Tools specific and realize there stuff has a much larger audience.

Well, I've had this Keystation Pro 88 now for a few days ... it works really well. Had issues with getting the transport keys to work but google soon sorted that out but I'm not sure this board is right for me. Being fully weighted, I'm finding it a little heavy. It's also a hell of a size for my small studio :(

I love the way you can split it into 4 zones though so in effect it's almost like having 4 boards in one with being able to assign different controls for each zone. :)

Oh well, I'll move it on once I have something to replace it.

I'm not exactly knocking M-Audio gear,I have some it's just that their tech service, help forums,& customer support are so lacking that I won't buy another of their products myself.
when my C400 dies again it's going to the trash heap w/ all the hoops I had to jump through for a warranty repair.
